Obituary

A devoted mother, the matriarch of her family, Emilia Rivera Alicea, was born on May 30, 1921 in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

Emilia and Marcos Evangelista Alicea met in their hometown of Ponce and married and out of their union 8 children were born, 3 boys, then 1 girl, 1 boy after, and lastly 3 girls: Pedro, Marcial, Manuel, Julia, Marcelo, Marie, Myrta, and Martha. They migrated from Puerto Rico in the 1940’s to the mainland states and settled in Spanish Harlem. From there they moved on to Brooklyn, New York to the "Farragut Houses", which became the center of their large family where all would come together every year.

Emilia, also known as "Milla", was a devout woman of faith to the catholic religion and was proud to be a mother of eight children. In her past time, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, singing, and especially playing scratch-off tickets.

Twenty years ago, on April 14, 2002, she lost a son, Marcelo and 10 days later, on April 24, 2002, she became a widow when she lost her husband.

Emilia departed this life on September 4, 2022. She left behind a host of broken hearts, including her 7 children, 1 sister, Julia Robles; 1 nephew, Jay; and 3 nieces, Crescencia, Lisa and Lillian; 24 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren, and other family and friends.

Emilia’s legacy lives on through her family in the memory they keep of her in their hearts. She will be remembered as a woman who gave unselfishly with a kind heart and strong spirit.

She will be greatly missed.
